      Folic Acid and prevention of Birth Defects
If women took folic acid 3 months prior to conception, 70% of the birth defects we see wouldn't happen!!!! 400 micrograms (0.4 mgm) of Folic Acid is the required amount. Some women need more if they have certain histories or medical conditions. Check with your midwife or physician....Even most over the counter prenatal vitamins have this amount of folic acid...
